Self-Care in the Age of COVID

September 10, 2020

All of us can probably use some self-care right now. Take a look at the ideas below and make it a point to try some!

Put pen to paper.

Grab your pen and begin to put pen to paper. There is something about the connection of grabbing the pen and transferring your thoughts from your mind, down to paper. There are studies that show that journaling negative feelings helps reduce stress. Why not start today?

Find your mantra.

Select a positive affirmation that makes you feel alive, one that uplifts you. Make it short and sweet. For instance, “I feel alive and energized.” Chant it repeatedly out loud or silently until you begin to truly feel it. Use this anytime you are feeling stressed out. You will find a sense of peace and well-being in minutes!

Turn off your phone or TV.

Take an hour away from your cellphone or TV. Be mindful for the moment. Go or look outside and watch the world.

Exercise (even for one minute!).

Exercise? What? Here’s the good news. It doesn’t have to be for long. March in place or jog for one minute. Feel the relief and feel your anxiety lessen.

Make a meal and savor it.

Take some extra time to make a delicious meal. Maybe it’s just a smoothie, or some grilled vegetables and chicken. Whatever you decide, sit down and eat with intention. Savor every bite. Congratulate yourself for taking good care.
